Natural Hot Spring in medieval town Viterbo, only 2 hours from Rome!
Viterbo: a stunning medieval town just 2 hours from Rome by train on Line R3. Nearest stop: Viterbo Porta Romana. And what of the natural highlights of this place? Natural hot spring heated by volcanic rocks feeding the lovely outdoor pool surrounded by wild flowers - for bathing, soaking up all the minerals and applying therapeutic light blue mud all over your face and body - for FREE!! What would normally cost you hundreds of dollars in a Spa is FREE here and au naturale ! Can't beat it. Bus route 2 from the main bus station will take you to the volcanic springs of Bulicame. You need to be fit to walk in Viterbo since the streets are, on the whole, cobble-stone and it's pretty hilly too. There's very little street traffic as most people tend to walk, apart from which, the streets are very narrow so only the brave tend to drive! There is a peace and quiet that you don't get in many cities, and yet there are lots of things to do and it has a real buzz. Viterbo is a university town so there's lots of venues that appeal to a mix of ages.
